About our Pharmacy

Our hospital Pharmacy is run by a friendly team of qualified Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants who provide a comprehensive pharmacy service to our patients, Consultants and staff. They provide a range of services, including:

Inpatient medication

Our Pharmacy team works with our ward staff to provide medication before and during your treatment. Once you’re ready to go home, they’ll arrange any medication you need, explaining what it’s for and how to take it.

The team also provides information and advice about medication to our Consultants and other clinical staff.

Outpatient medication and prescriptions

If your Consultant or private GP has prescribed medication for you, our Pharmacy will be able to dispense it to you, often within minutes. There’s usually a charge for dispensing medication against our prescriptions.

Before they dispense it, our Pharmacy team will need to check several details with you to ensure the safe processing of your prescription. They’ll advise how much and how often you should take your medication, at what time of the day it should be taken, and any common side effects you might experience.

Over-the-counter medicines

Our Pharmacy is a registered pharmacy and offers competitive pricing for a limited range of over-the-counter medicines. If there are items you require after your procedure, our Pharmacy may be able to help before your journey home.

Our Pharmacy team is always happy to provide information and advice on any medication that you’ve been prescribed.

I have a question about the hospital Pharmacy

What are the opening hours for the Pharmacy?

The Pharmacy is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (except bank holidays).

Can I use my NHS prescription prepayment certificate (PPC)?

If you’ve been referred to us through the NHS e-Referral Scheme, and your Consultant issues you with a prescription at your appointment, our Pharmacy recognises the full range of NHS exemptions including pre-payment certificates.

Can you dispense a prescription provided by my GP or another private hospital?

We can’t dispense the standard NHS FP10 prescriptions issued by GPs but will happily dispense a valid private prescription issued by another private hospital.

Do I need to bring my medication with me to my appointment?

When you first come to see us, we’ll ask you about any prescription medication you’re currently taking, as well as any non-prescription or complementary medicines you’ve bought over the counter. Please bring along a list of your current medication or a copy of your repeat prescription form.

Do I need to bring my medication with me if I’m in for surgery?

Please bring any medication with you (including asthma inhalers, eye drops, patches or creams /ointments) in their original packaging and we’ll advise you on whether it’s safe to take them during your stay. You should make sure that you have enough of these medicines to last the duration of your time with us, and more at home for after you’re discharged.

What should I do with any leftover or expired medicine?

You shouldn’t take medication after its expiry date, which is usually printed on the packet. Never flush expired or unwanted medicines down the sink or toilet or throw them into a bin. Instead you should take them to a pharmacy (ideally the pharmacy where they were dispensed) where they can be disposed of safely.
